| Description | The mission of Special Education Technology - British Columbia (SET BC) is to enhance student opportunities for success by providing access to curriculum through the use of appropriate educational and communication technologies. SET BC is a Ministry of Education Provincial Resource Program established to assist school districts in educating students whose access to the curriculum is restricted primarily due to disabilities such as: physical disability, visual impairment, autism. Students eligible for SET BC services must be receiving funding from the Ministry of Education, Special Education branch in one of the five disability categories: (Chronic Health/Physical Disability, Visual Impairment, Physically Dependent with Multiple Needs, Deaf blind, and Autism). The Case Manager of a student’s Individual Education Program (IEP) can recommend a referral to SET BC. www.setbc.org | |||
| Sup. Description | Communication Assistance for Young Adults (CAYA) is a continuation of the SET BC program for young adults between 19 - 27 who require alternative or augmentative communication (AAC) assistance. The project is designed to address the crucial transition period to adulthood for young people with severe communication disabilities. The goal of CAYA is to ensure that eligible individuals have access to the communication tools and professional support to enable them to create an adult life to the best of their abilities. A student needs to be referred to CAYA through the school prior to graduation. | |||
