|Description & Services|
|Description||The Shriners are committed to community service and have been instrumental in countless public projects throughout their domain. |
It was formed to treat young victims of polio, but as that disease was controlled, they broadened their scope. They now deal with all pediatric cases, most especially with orthopedic injuries and disease and burns. The Shrine has pioneered new treatments for these conditions. Local Shrine temples most often provide free transportation to the nearest hospital.
Shriners Care Cruiser Program
Faced with the ever-increasing high cost of sending patients to Shriners Hospitals by air, the Shriners in 2001 purchased a Highway Motor Coach. The coach was modified to comfortably transport physically challenged children and their parents to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland, Oregon, for treatment. The Shrine Care Cruiser program has proven to be an unqualified success.
Today the Shrine Care Cruiser program, which is one of a kind in North America, includes five modern highway coaches that travel throughout the province of British Columbia.
